State Councilor Beate Prettner and Medical Director Elisabeth Oberleitner appeal to take advantage of free vaccinations, because another case of measles has been reported in the Spittal district. Health authorities are conducting further surveys in the area.

CARINTHIA. Health officer Beate Prettner announced another confirmed case of measles in Carinthia today: “It is a young person from the Spittal district. The health authorities are conducting surveys in their area.” Prettner once again appeals to make use of the vaccination offer: “The measles vaccination is free for everyone, vaccination centers are our health authorities and the resident doctors. The European vaccination week is taking place this week – until April 28th. It is a good idea So it’s perfect for catching up on missing vaccinations or having necessary boosters administered.”

“Vaccination is important”

State health director Elisabeth Oberleitner also points out the importance of the measles vaccination: “Two vaccinations are necessary, which are recommended at least four weeks apart. If you are unsure about your vaccination status, you should seek vaccination advice from the health department or your family doctor take.” As Oberleitner emphasizes, an MMR vaccination (measles/mumps/rubella) can be made up for at any age.

“From 4-year-olds to 60-year-olds”

“Since measles is a highly contagious disease, people who suspect measles should definitely stay at home and call their doctor,” explains Prettner. Most recently, 25 people were infected with measles in Carinthia in 2019. “All generations were affected: from four-year-olds to 60-year-olds,” said the health officer. Apart from this “outlier” in 2019, on average only one case of measles has been registered in Carinthia in the past 15 years. There are currently three cases this year.
