Tiruppur: The Arcot Arjun Hockey Club team won the trophy in the state hockey tournament held in Tiruppur. The state hockey tournament started on the 9th at the Sikkanna Government Arts College, Tiruppur. In the two-day tournament, 18 teams from across the state participated. The match was played in knock-out format. In the first semi-final, Vadipatti Hockey Club beat Kovilpatti Pandavar Zone Hockey Club 2-0. In the other semi-final, Arcot Arjun Hockey Club defeated Sikkanna Government Arts College 2-0. The final was played between Arjun Hockey Club and Vadipatti Hockey Club. The Arjun hockey team scored the first goal early on. Subsequently, as both teams played a defensive game, the next goal never fell. In the end, the Arjun hockey team won 1 – 0. College Principal Krishnan then presided over the award ceremony. Director of Physical Education Rajaram welcomed the guests. Mayor Dinesh Kumar presented cash prizes of Rs. 15,000 to the team and Mayor Dinesh Kumar presented Rs. Team), Ranjith (Vadipatti), Bala (Arjun Team) were selected as the best players.
