Kolkata: Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen has said that state parties including DMK will be important in the coming parliamentary elections.
In an interview given to a news agency, he said, “I think the state parties will play an important role in the coming 2024 parliamentary elections. There is no doubt about it. In particular, the DMK is an important party. Trinamool Congress is also an important party. The Samajwadi Party has some positions. However, I don’t know how the outcome of that party will be.
BJP is a pro-Hindu, visionary party; I think it is wrong to conclude that there is no alternative to that party. This is a decision that should be ignored. BJP has reduced India’s vision to a great extent. It has been interrupted that India means Hindu India, a country with Hindi speaking people. That being the case, it is sad that the party has no alternative today.
BJP looks strong and powerful. However, the party also has weaknesses. Therefore, if the intention to oppose the BJP is genuine, the opposition parties should come forward to discuss these. I don’t think the party has the power to stop anti-BJP parties from merging.
Mamata Banerjee has the talent to be the next prime minister of the country. But it is yet to be proven that he can rally the forces across the country against the BJP and put an end to the separatist forces.
Congress seems to have become very weak. I don’t know how much one can trust that party. However, no other party has the all-India vision that the Congress has. Also, the Congress is divided again,” said Amartya Sen.
