Stelios Mamalakis:April 2nd is World Autism Day, by decision of the UN General Assembly, which aims to raise awareness among member states and their societies about autism spectrum disorders and Asperger’s syndrome, throughout the world.
It takes courage to recognize the symptoms and turn to a specialist for our child. It needs social care from the State, the Municipality and the competent services. But it needs understanding and tolerance from society so that it doesn’t

It is important to remember that Autism is not a rare phenomenon. We encounter it more and more next to us. It is typical that in America, 1 in 110 children has some form of autism, a 600% increase in recent years. In fact, more children are diagnosed with autism than with childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes or AIDS combined.
According to studies, autism is three to four times more common in boys than in girls, while statistics show that rates are increasing by 10 to 17% annually. We cannot, therefore, turn a blind eye, as a society, nor be fatalistic about an issue that calls for action, awareness, honesty and social sensitivity.

Early diagnosis – and – in this case is life-saving and ensures a great benefit for the child, as it allows addressing his special needs, understanding his behavior, improving educational performance.”
