Kerala’s first I Max theater is coming to provide a magical experience for movie lovers. The world’s most modern theater opens at Lulu Mall in Thiruvananthapuram. The inauguration will take place in December. ‘Avatar the Way of Water’ will be screened first. The news was shared on Twitter by Pritam Daniel, vice president of iMax Asia.

The news was officially confirmed by Lulu Group but no date was announced. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, discussions are also underway to bring IMAX to Cinepolis in Kochi Center Square Mall and PVR in Lulu Mall.
Pritam said in a tweet that he visited these places as part of this. In recent times, IMAX theaters have aroused great curiosity among moviegoers around the world. Experts say that IMAX theaters with huge aspect ratio screens and stadium seating offer another level of cinema experience.
What is imax?
There are very few movie fans who have not heard the name I-MAX. I Max is the abbreviation of Image Maximum. Since ancient times, various techniques have been tried to enhance the visual appeal of movies. Beginning with the 35mm format, those experiments progressed through Cinemascope, Cinerama, and the 70mm format. In 1967, an exhibition was organized in Montreal for the film In the Labrynth, with several projects and five screens.
Graeme Ferguson, Roman Croiter, Robert Kerr and William Shaw pioneered the concept of this technology known as multiscreen. Later, their company Multiscreen changed its name to IMAX in 1970.
The iMax will display movies at 18K (18000 lines) resolution. In order to reach that resolution, you need to be able to move at least 24 frames per second. The film frame dimensions of IMAX are 69.6 mm × 48.5 mm. Buying an IMAX camera is not very practical. The problem is price and availability. There are very few of them in the world. It is given on rent to filmmakers.
Sound is not recorded with the film in IMAX. This is then usually recorded and processed on 6-channel surround magnetic film. The spooker system will be the same as that used in a regular theater. 15KW XENON ARC LAMP is used in the projector. Due to this, a better image will be available on the screen.
A typical IMAX screen is 16 meters high and 22 meters wide. The world’s largest IMAX theater is located in the Leonberg in Stuttgart, Germany. The screen ratio is 38/22 meters. There are many variants of IMAX. They are IMAX DOME, IMAX 3D, IMAX HD, IMAX DIGITAL, IMAX DMR etc. Digital IMAX is the format used by Hollywood films.
