Statistical Institute will carry out a “Block Scan” study

In his written statement, Head of the Statistical Institute İrfan Tansel Demir noted that the institution compiles detailed and up-to-date information on the labor force status of the population, employed and unemployed, with the Household Labor Force Survey (HLFS), which is the main data source on the supply side of the workforce and which it regularly implements.

Demir stated that the institution, which follows international standards in the statistics it produces in accordance with its working principles, uses the definitions of employment and unemployment determined by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the HLFS and that the survey was conducted in accordance with the standards of the European Union Statistical Office (Eurostat):

“It is an undeniable fact that accurate, reliable and timely statistical information is required in order to be able to make the right decisions on economic issues, and to make and implement plans and programs for the future. In meeting the needs that have arisen as a result of the rapid changes in our economic structure; Labor force data guides the production of qualified and effective policies.

Currently, the Block Scanning (address listing) study will be carried out by our Institution between September 4 and September 17, 2023, in order to ensure the up-to-dateness of the framework to be used in the selection of the households to be surveyed in October and to obtain reliable data.

In the listing work to be carried out in randomly selected blocks throughout the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, pollsters assigned by our Institution will take charge. The pollsters will have the ‘Mission Badge’, the seal of our Institution, with them to be displayed when requested.

In this context, it is of great importance to show the necessary convenience to the interviewers appointed by our Institution in terms of reaching the aim of the study. I respectfully request our people to show the necessary interest and sensitivity in this matter.”
