A decrease in traffic accident victims is recorded
21,854 checks were carried out & 4,084 violations were confirmed
The General Regional Police Directorate of the South Aegean publishes total data on traffic accidents and violations for the month of June 2024, in the territorial jurisdiction of the prefectures of Cyclades and Dodecanese.
The publication of the monthly data is accompanied by statistical data of the corresponding last month.
a. Traffic policing actions
The Traffic Services of the General Regional Police Directorate of the South Aegean are on constant alert, implementing specific planning that provides for road safety and traffic policing measures for the safe movement of vehicles and citizens, as well as for the prevention and prevention of accidents – accidents throughout the road network.
In the context of the traffic management actions, in the month of June 2024, 21,854 checks were carried out and a total of 4,084 violations of the Code of Conduct were confirmed.
Indicatively, the most serious and dangerous traffic violations confirmed are listed:
· 662 for riding a two-wheeler without wearing a protective helmet
· 508 for driving without a driver’s license
· 297 for excessive speed
· 133 for driving a car without wearing a seat belt
· 40 for using a mobile phone while driving
· 31 for movement in the opposite traffic flow
· 9 for worn tires
In particular, for violations related to driving under the influence of alcohol, it is noted that, in the month of June 2024, 131 levels of traffic controls were set up, 2,205 drivers were checked and 124 violations were confirmed.
Also, out of the total number of checks carried out, 454 concerned commercial cars, in which 124 violations were found and confirmed.
b. Car accidents
In the territorial jurisdiction of the General Regional Police Directorate of the South Aegean, in the month of June 2024 there were 71 traffic accidents, compared to 57 in the corresponding month of the year 2023. In particular, the following were noted:
· Three (3) fatal traffic accidents (versus 5 in 2023)
· Ten (10) serious traffic accidents (versus 12 in 2023)
· Fifty-eight (58) minor traffic accidents (versus 40 in 2023)
Of the traffic accidents that occurred in urban and rural areas of the prefectures of Cyclades and Dodecanese in the month of June 2024, 72 victims were recorded compared to 86 in the corresponding month of the year 2023. In particular, the following were recorded:
· Three (3) deaths (versus 5 in 2023)
· Eleven (11) seriously injured (versus 12 in 2023)
· Fifty-eight (58) slightly injured (versus 69 in 2023)
c. Road Safety Tips
The Hellenic Police, particularly aware of the issues of safe driving and road safety, with the aim and purpose of reducing traffic accidents and accidents, reminds all drivers and users of the road network that road safety is everyone’s business.
In this context, drivers must apply the provisions of the Road Traffic Code, drive prudently and carefully and follow the instructions and advice of the Traffic staff.
We must not forget that driving safely means:
· I learn and apply the Road Traffic Code
· I have constant tension in my driving and vehicle control
· I have not consumed alcoholic beverages when driving
· I don’t break the speed limit
· If I drive or am a passenger on a motorcycle, I always wear a helmet
· I always wear a seat belt
· I place the children in a child seat in the back of the car and wear a seat belt
· I don’t do illegal overtaking
· I do not run a red light
· I stop at STOP and give priority
· I don’t talk on the cell phone while driving
· I give priority to pedestrians
· I respect the signals and instructions of the traffic controllers
The above tips will be constantly repeated in order to contribute to the consolidation of traffic and driving culture.
