According to a senior official with the fire service, the fire has “great potential” for further spread. The Directorate for Community Security and Emergency Preparedness (DSB) has responded by deploying 20 personnel from the civil defense to assist in firefighting efforts. “We are bringing in a lot of people and have requested a helicopter,” stated a duty manager at the 110 center, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

The Mayor of Ørland, Hallgeir Grøntvedt, is preparing residents for a potentially lengthy response. “We believe that this will take some time,” he said, citing dry conditions and wind as key factors hindering containment. A rescue manager at the Northern Norway Central Rescue Service stated, “We are ready to take action when it becomes light.”
A patrol on the scene reported that an entire mountainside is ablaze, fueled by exceptionally dry vegetation. “It is so dry that it becomes an explosive way for the fire to spread,” one officer noted, highlighting the urgent need for additional resources. Authorities are also requesting that onlookers stay away from the area, as their presence is hindering emergency operations. Residents are being advised to close windows and remain indoors.

One farm has already been evacuated, and the situation is being closely monitored. “It is terribly dry in Oksvoll,” a senior official explained. “That’s why it’s burning very well up there now, but I have good faith that we will eventually get it under control.”
The DSB had already increased preparedness for potential wildfires this weekend, placing two forest fire helicopters on alert at Vigra and Voss, anticipating the heightened risk due to dry weather and high winds. This proactive measure underscores the growing concern over wildfire risk in the region.
