BOLZANO. A 56-year-old Chilean with a criminal record, already expelled from Italy in 2019, was arrested yesterday (September 18) in Bolzano after a theft and an assault on a courier.

The Police Headquarters Operations Centre was alerted for a violent fight in the city center citizen. The patrol of the “Flying Squad”, arriving on the scene, noticed a courier who was trying to hold back a man who was attacking him.

At the time he was stopped, the attacker still had with him a metal transport trolley with three large boxes on top.

After having listened to the victim and the witnesses, the officers were able to reconstruct the story: shortly before their arrival, some items had been stolen from a delivery van. parcels destined for the Woolrich store in via dei Portici; on that occasion the South American criminal, taking advantage of the open van and the temporary absence of the courier (who was busy delivering other goods at the time), entered inside and stole some packages of considerable value, before trying to get away.

Subjected to a personal search, the 56-year-old was found in possession of multiple altered keys and lock picks, as well as a falsified driving licence.

The man – already expelled in June 2019 and forced to board, with a provision of the Police Commissioner of Mantua, a flight to Chile – was arrested for illegal re-entry into Italy as well as for the crime of aggravated theft. Police Commissioner Paolo Sartori issued an expulsion decree, which will become effective once the subject is released from prison.
