Steelers Favored Over Browns in Thursday Night AFC North Clash

The Pittsburgh Steelers face the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night at Huntington Bank Field in an early-season AFC North clash.

The AFC North takes center stage on Thursday Night Football as the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to face the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime. Both division rivals enter Week 4 holding identical 2-1 records, making the prime-time matchup an early battle for positioning in the division where all four teams share a 2-1 standing.

Oddsmakers have installed Pittsburgh as a 2.5-point road favorite. The visiting Steelers hold an all-time series advantage of 83-65-1 against Cleveland, though recent history in northeast Ohio tells a different story.

Steelers Road Struggles in Cleveland

Pittsburgh has found Cleveland to be a difficult venue in recent seasons, winning only one of its last eight games at the stadium dating back to 2018. Three of those defeats occurred during prime-time Thursday games, including a 13-6 loss in Week 17 last December where Rodgers failed to throw a touchdown pass.

Ahead of the short turnaround, Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy explored ways to give his team a rest advantage. That regulation forced the Steelers to travel on Wednesday and stay in a hotel.

“I think we pay attention to the things that are most important in tune with an environment that we need to play in. … Playing on the road on Thursday is a lot different, obviously, than playing at home.”

Mike McCarthy, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach

Despite the travel restriction, McCarthy boasts a 16-6 career record in Thursday games, while Rodgers enters the contest with a 13-6 mark in Thursday starts. A victory would tie Rodgers with Tom Brady for the most wins on Thursday night in the Super Bowl era.

Rodgers Chases NFL Record Against Browns Pass Rush

Rodgers has historically played well against Cleveland, throwing 11 touchdown passes without an interception across five career games against the franchise. If he throws at least two touchdown passes without an interception, he will set the NFL record for the most touchdowns against a single opponent without an interception.

Achieving that milestone will require facing a fierce Browns pass rush. Cleveland generates a 42.2% quarterback pressure rate, which ranks second in the NFL according to league data. Defensive tackle Mason Graham, the fifth overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft, has recorded four sacks through the first three games.

The Pittsburgh offense is coming off a productive 30-point showing against Cincinnati in Week 3, a game where Rodgers threw two deep touchdown passes in the first quarter. To counter Cleveland’s interior rush, the Steelers will likely lean on running back Jaylen Warren, who posted a career-high 176 scrimmage yards on 20 touches against the Bengals while filling in for the injured Rico Dowdle.

Watson Leads Browns Offense

The Browns counter with Deshaun Watson, who has guided Cleveland to consecutive wins over Tampa Bay and Carolina. Watson is completing 68.3% of his passes for 587 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception this season. The Cleveland offense has leaned on tight end Harold Fannin Jr. and wide receiver Denzel Boston, who have combined for 321 receiving yards and four touchdowns through three contests.

The team is seeking its third consecutive victory, a feat the franchise has not accomplished since December 2023.

Cleveland Wears Alpha Dawg Uniforms for Prime-Time Contest

Cleveland will wear its all-brown Alpha Dawg alternate uniforms for the prime-time contest according to the team’s apparel announcement. The set combines Color Rush jerseys with matte brown helmets featuring two orange stripes and a brown facemask, a combination previously worn three times after its introduction last season.

Beyond the division standings and uniform debut, both teams face notable statistical trends at Huntington Bank Field. The Browns have dropped the first half in 11 of their last 12 games against opponents with winning records, while the Steelers are looking to halt a streak in Thursday night divisional road games dating back decades.
