A few days before his boxing match with Regina Halmich, Stefan Raab is drumming up more and more publicity. Now Michael “Bully” Herbig is also on board.
For years, we hardly saw or heard anything from Stefan Raab after he said goodbye as a TV face. Now he is increasing the frequency of his posts on Instagram and gathering celebrities behind him.
In the new clip “Noch 5 Tage …” director Michael “Bully” Herbig plays a plastic surgeon who is supposed to get Raab, who is portrayed as deliberately sluggish and fat, back into shape. On Saturday RTL will broadcast the boxing match in Cologne live – it is a revival of earlier spectacular fights and thus also Raab’s return to TV with at least one appearance.
There is speculation as to whether this will be the start of more. For decades, Raab stood for new, funny television. As a presenter and producer, he set standards for what we define as entertainment. Whether on the music channel Viva, on his comedy show “TV total”, as the mastermind behind ESC winner Lena Meyer-Landrut or at his Wok World Championship. In 2015, the 57-year-old retired from the screen, but continued to work behind the scenes.
Raab has repeated the joke about his supposedly overweight body several times now. It all started at Easter with the first sign of life at a picturesque lake and Raab, apparently wearing a fat suit and not feeling like doing anything. When influencer Pamela Reif pushes him through the beauty clinic in a wheelchair in the new Insta clip, doctor Herbig says: “What is that?” Reif: “That’s Stefan Raab.” Herbig: “Oh shit.”
Such Insta PR strategies with a countdown before an important event are seen again and again. One example: Before the publication of his novel “Still Awake?” last year, writer Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre had celebrities read out individual chapter headings on Instagram.
