(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 21 – The theme of violence against women is one of the messages that Stefania Sandrelli entrusts to an unprecedented Tosca for her debut in opera direction. On 23 July, the opera staged by the actress will inaugurate the 67th edition of the Puccini festival in Torre del Lago, in Viareggio (Lucca), Sandrelli’s hometown. “For me it is an overflowing emotion – comments Sandrelli – my grandfather used to sing me all the Puccini arias and this debut touches me very much, it is a dream”. In Sandrelli’s direction, Tosca recalls how current the theme of gender violence is. “Violence against women is no longer tolerable – adds Sandrelli -. Tosca is a courageous, strong woman who is concerned about things that do not seem right to her, she is an absolutely contemporary character”. (HANDLE).
