Stefano Bandecchi: “I resign from the position of mayor of Terni”

by time news

The mayor of Terni, Stefano Bandecchi, has announced his resignation from the position of mayor. “A few minutes ago I communicated to the Council and to all the councilors of Popular Alternative that I have already resigned from the position of mayor”, he said in a video on his Instagram profile published around 6pm today, 8 February. “To date we have nothing official. I saw the video as a private citizen, like you. Tomorrow we will see”, the head of the Cabinet of the Prefecture of Terni, Luca Iervolino, told ANSA.

Resignation

“Through this video I communicate it to all citizens, so they will avoid reading the newspapers, which who knows what stupid things they may say”, explained Bandecchi in the video released on social media. “The reasons are of a political nature. I continue to be the secretary of Popular Alternative, but I will not, in 20 more days from now, be the mayor of the city of Terni, so we will not run the risk of having a Bandecchia dictatorship in Terni” . Then he added: “Having said this, I greet all the citizens, I thank all those who voted for me. My political career continues as secretary of Popular Alternative”. Speaking to Ansa, Bandecchi then underlined that “I am resigning because there are people in Terni, in my party, who have understood nothing about politics, about this project, about what I want to build”. And then he reiterated: “I remain national secretary of Popular Alternative and I will be a candidate in the European elections. From tomorrow I will certainly eat anyway. I won’t mention names but in Terni, in Popular Alternative, there are those who have not understood that we are neither the Democratic Party nor the Brothers of Italy, but something new. Too bad for them.” The Instagram video was anticipated by a message sent by Bandecchi on the majority group’s Whatsapp chat, in which he announced his resignation.
