Stem cells: Donors are urgently needed

by time news

The number of stem cell donors has risen sharply in recent years. Every third patient with Turkish or African roots cannot find a suitable stem cell donor for medical treatment, according to figures published by the Red Cross. The organization is calling for more ethnic diversity among donors on the occasion of the International Day of Stem Cell Donors this Saturday (September 17). “For patients with serious diseases such as leukemia or cancer of the lymphatic system, stem cell therapy is often the last chance for a cure,” emphasizes the Red Cross.
