Summit in Khartoum: Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met today (Thursday) with senior Sudanese officials including the leader Abd al-Fattah al-Burhan.
Minister Eli Cohen is the first to meet publicly with the leader of Sudan and his government officials – and the photos are published in real time. It may show that the Sudanese are ready to take a step forward, which they have avoided in the past.
The official Sudanese announcement reads: “The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, met today in his office with the Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen and his entourage together with the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ali al-Sadeq. The meeting with the Israeli foreign minister who came for an official visit lasted one day and dealt with ways to establish fruitful relations with Israel.
The meeting also dealt with ways to strengthen the horizons of cooperation between Israel and Sudan in the fields of agriculture, energy, health, water, education and also in the fields of security and the military. The Sudanese side urged Israel to achieve stability between itself and the Arabs. The meeting also dealt with the role played by Sudan in handling the security problems in the region.”
