Stephen Amell Clarifies Comments on Actors’ Strike
In a recent appearance at Galaxycon in Raleigh, North Carolina, Stephen Amell, known for his roles in “Arrow” and “Heels,” shared his thoughts on the ongoing actors’ strike. Amell stated that while he supports his union, he does not support the idea of striking.
Amell’s remarks, captured in a video shared on social media, caused some controversy and sparked a reaction from fans and fellow actors. In response to the backlash, Amell took to Instagram to clarify his comments and provide context to ensure his true feelings are not misinterpreted.
In his statement, Amell acknowledged that his use of the word “support” may have contradicted his true feelings. He emphasized that he stands with his union and understands the reasons behind the strike, even if he personally does not like striking.
Addressing his previous description of the strike as a “reductive negotiating tactic,” Amell admitted that he found the whole situation frustrating. However, he expressed his respect for the union’s leadership and recognized that the issues at hand are complex and not easily resolved.
The ongoing strike, led by SAG-AFTRA, involves approximately 160,000 actors demanding better contract terms related to compensation, artificial intelligence protections, and other issues. SAG-AFTRA members have been on strike since July 14, while writers in the industry have also been on strike since May 2.
