THE Steve Albini, the singer, guitarist and producer, has died aged 61 of a heart attack suffered in his recording studio. His personal studio, Electrical Audio, confirmed the news to Pitchfork.
As well as fronting post-punk and art-rock bands Big Black, Rapeman and Shellac, Albini has also produced Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
As the Guardian writes, he was known for his DIY and punk ethos, resisted streaming services and refused to take royalties from the recordings he produced for other artists.
With his group Shellac, they have been preparing their first album since 2014, To All Trains, for release next week.
