The STF has already convicted more than 20 defendants for the coup acts in Brasília (DF) on January 8th.

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) plans to judge 146 actions related to the anti-democratic attacks of January 8, 2023 between February and April, according to an investigation by the newspaper O GLOBO. With this, the Court is close to ending the trials of the so-called executors of the coup acts, that is, those detained within the three Powers.

So far, the STF has analyzed 30 criminal cases, all of which resulted in convictions. Another 29 are being analyzed in a session open during the Judiciary recess, ending in early February.

It is estimated that, between the beginning of February and the beginning of April, 15 criminal cases will be judged each week, divided into nine “waves”. In April, trials of 11 more cases are scheduled. With this, it is expected that the total number of cases judged will reach 205. In total, 232 criminal actions were opened against people accused of carrying out the acts.

These judgment predictions are contained in a report of the decisions taken by the STF on January 8, released on Sunday by the office of the rapporteur, Alexandre de Moraes.

Another 1,113 complaints were received against inciters, those camped in front of the Army Headquarters, in Brasília. However, these processes were interrupted for negotiations on a possible agreement with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

The report released on Sunday shows that Moraes made 6,204 decisions related to January 8th. This includes 255 authorizations of search and seizure warrants, at more than 400 addresses, and 350 breaches of banking and/or telematic secrecy.
