‘Tank’ Choi Kyung-ju (54) took second place in the Champions Allyn Challenge, a senior stage of the US PGA Tour.

Kyung-Ju Choi shot a 5-under 67 in the final third round of the tournament held at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club (par 72) in Grand Blanc, Michigan, USA on the 26th. With a final total of 13-under 203, Kyung-Ju Choi finished in sole second place behind Stuart Cink (USA), who won with 17-under 199. Cink, who mainly plays on the PGA Tour, won his first career victory on the Champions Tour, which is open to players over 50 years old. The prize money for the winner is $330,000 (approximately 440 million won).

Although she failed to achieve a comeback win, Choi Kyung-ju continues to show good form despite being in her mid-50s.

Last month, he won the Senior Open, a PGA Tour Champions major tournament held at Carnoustie Golf Links (par 72) in Scotland, England, with a final total of 10-under 278. It was his first major tournament win in his PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions career.

With his second-place finish in this tournament, Choi has now finished in the top five five times this season. He is tied for sixth in this category with 10 top-10 finishes this season. Choi, who debuted in the 2020 PGA Tour Champions, has won twice and finished second five times in the past five years. His prize money from the Champions Tour alone amounts to $4,863,641 (approximately KRW 6.45 billion).

Choi Kyung-ju won his 17th KPGA Tour title at the SK Telecom Open held at Jeju Pinks Golf Club in May, beating out strong junior players. This win, recorded on his 54th birthday, was the oldest win in the KPGA history.

Behind her ageless performance lies thorough self-management. Choi Kyung-ju, who underwent surgery for thyroid problems five years ago, has completely stopped drinking alcohol and carbonated drinks since last year. She doesn’t even touch the coffee she used to enjoy. In a video interview with reporters in the middle of this month, Choi Kyung-ju said, “I do 25 push-ups, 20 grip strength training sessions, and 120 squats every day. Since changing my lifestyle, I feel energized when I wake up in the morning.” She added, “I think I can do it until I’m 60. I’ll try harder in the future.”

Mike Weir (Canada) finished in third place (12-under 204 strokes), one stroke behind Choi K.J. Among Korean players, Yang Yong-eun finished in a tie for 26th place (5-under 211 strokes) and Wi Chang-soo finished in a tie for 47th place (1-under 215 strokes).
