(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 23 – The African heat is retreating towards the South-East: the peaks of 40-42°C, which have hit Italy since July 10 onwards, are moving towards the southern Balkans and the eastern Mediterranean.
Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of the site www.iLMeteo.it, confirms that the grip of heat and mugginess, oppressive in the last 10 days in much of the country, is leaving our territory for a few days. We will still touch 35-36°C in the Center-South but the weather conditions will be less muggy and, above all, the nights will be less ‘tropical’. In the North the maximum temperatures will struggle to exceed 32°C, especially between Piedmont and Lombardy.
In the next few hours, in fact, the Azores Anticyclone will dominate the scenario with more westerly currents (from the Atlantic Ocean, home of the Azores Islands) replacing the Camel (the jargon name for the African Anticyclone) and its load of humid air masses from the south.
In short, in the afternoon we will still reach 35-36°C in Florence and Rome but the humidity content and the mugginess will be decidedly lower: after the stormy passage of the last 48 hours, the weather will remain a bit unstable in the Triveneto and in the entire Apennine belt of Central-Southern Italy, but the sun will still prevail.
Furthermore, between Wednesday and Thursday, a further slight drop in temperatures is expected with almost pleasant weather, considering that we are in the climatically hottest phase of the year in Italy, we are in the ‘Solleone’, a hot period of summer between mid-July and mid-August during which the Sun is in the zodiac sign of Leo. “Experiencing a summer Solleone in Italy with highs of 33-34°C is almost an exception in recent years dominated by global warming” observes the expert. But it will be the exception that proves the rule: from the weekend we will immediately return to boiling with 38-40°C, even in Florence, Ferrara and Bolzano. From Saturday 27 July, the return of the African Anticyclone is expected and temperatures will rise by 5-6 degrees quickly, suddenly, annoyingly, scorchingly, reminding us that by now the Italian summer is no longer the pleasant one of the Azores Anticyclone, but the North African one of the subtropical Camel.
