In three rounds of elections yesterday, it was not possible to elect the chairman of Jelgava County Council. Thus, the situation when the municipality works without a leader continues, but a turning point is expected here as well – signatures of ten deputies have been collected for the removal of the current deputy chairperson of the council, Ilze Vītola (LZS).
This, in turn, means that the composition of the City Council, in which 19 deputies are elected from seven lists, is capable of agreeing against someone, but at least at the moment it is not ready to vote for any candidate.
No coalition has been formed
Taking into account that both I. Vītola and the former chairman of Ozolnieki County Council Andris Ozoliņš (LZP) received identical support in the first round, voting was held for both candidates in the second round as well. Six votes were cast for I. Vitols, and eight for A. Ozoliņa. Therefore, the chairman of the council was not elected, so a third round of voting took place, in which voting was only for the candidacy of A. Ozoliņš. However, he again won the support of only eight colleagues, while 11 were against. This was the second attempt to elect a new chairman of the county council. Before that, on July 10, two candidates were nominated for the position – A. Ozoliņš and Emīls Dobrājs (LA), who was nominated for the position by the former regional mayor Madars Lasmanis (LA),
