The Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Benin, is preparing to launch the fourth edition of “October, Month of Local Consumption.” This initiative, which aims to promote the consumption of local goods and services within the UEMOA, is gaining momentum and promises to boost the region’s economy.

Under the theme “What strategies to stimulate the consumption of local goods and services in the UEMOA area,” this edition will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday October 4, 2023, from 3 p.m., at the Palais des Congrès in Cotonou. The event benefits from the high patronage of HE Patrice TALON, President of the Republic of Benin, thus highlighting the commitment of governments in the region to this initiative.

The heart of this event will take place from October 4 to 8, 2023, with the participation of the eight UEMOA member states who will exhibit a variety of products from the community space. This will provide local producers with an invaluable platform to showcase their creations and skills, whilst highlighting the richness and diversity of goods and services available in the region.

This initiative is not limited to the exhibition week. Throughout the month of October, commercial promotion activities and consultations will be organized in the different UEMOA member states to mark the event. This global approach aims to raise awareness among populations of the importance of supporting the local economy by consuming products manufactured in the region.

It should be noted that the celebration of “October, Month of Local Consumption” is the result of a decision taken by the Ministers responsible for Trade of the Member States of the Union during their annual meeting on October 25, 2019. in Ouagadougou. This decision aims to support efforts to transform local products within UEMOA, by highlighting national know-how.
