The voice stinkywritten in lower case, is a valid neologism to refer to certain types of Internet networks that can communicate with each other and share information.

In the technology news you can find examples such as the following: «A fediverso with its own rules», «Mastodon cannot be understood without the Fediverso» or «Threads, with the “fediverse”, joins the list of rivals of Twitter”.

similar in appearance to multiversethe word stinky, which has its origin in English fediverse, it can be considered a valid acronymic formation in Spanish in which you play with federation, miscellaneous y universe. The first of these two elements indicates what it consists of: social networks that have federated so that, from the user’s point of view, they are treated as a single networkalthough in reality it is decentralized.

Since it is a term that describes in a generic way a modality in which social networks can work, is written in lower case. You do not need quotation marks or italics, although they are valid resources if you want to highlight the novelty of the term to readers.

Thus, while the first example is valid, in the second it would have been appropriate to write “Mastodon cannot be understood without the fediverse” and in the third it would have been possible to do without the quotes: “Threads, with the fediverse, is added to the list of rivals of Twitter”.
