I don’t think there would be a festive table where the colored electricity tariffs did not dominate the discussions. We were all looking for someone with stock market knowledge or even more specifically energy market knowledge to enlighten us. Where and even if one is an expert, international developments from the North Sea to Red Sea and the Houthi rebels can upset our family budget. Any reasonable person you talk to will tell you the same thing. So now, are we serious? Will I have to report every month to see which tariff to choose and from which provider? Will I have to make excel, to note all the values, to decide what to do? All the rest I have in my life is not enough, should I cause another trouble? Mainly, however, this whole process turns us – also in the stream – into “opportunity hunters”. Where every month e.g. we should be looking to find the current best tariff for electricity, phone, tomorrow water and who knows what else. We already live in a daily “stock market”, values in food, in rents, in consumer goods. Now we are also putting the basic public services there, I guess tomorrow the provision of health (it has already entered for many), as well as the provision of education, will also enter the scale. The blue, green, yellow, orange, new tariffs simply confirm that there is no will to defend the fact that electricity is a social good and based on national and EU legislation it must be affordable and accessible to all. On the contrary, the decisions and the new system make electricity clearly a speculative stock market product. And when you ask the minister how the consumer will untangle this mess, he answers you: “Everything is fine, that means competition.” In these days of gambling one thing is certain for everyone. As in casinos, so in shopping even for basic goods, “mother never loses”.
