US Stock Indices Close Higher on Tuesday
Stock indices in the United States rose at the close of trading on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones adding 0.48%.
The S&P 500 index finished up 0.48%, reaching a 52-week high, while the Nasdaq index rose 0.46%, and the Nasdaq index rose 0.70%. Among the leading stocks in the index today, Salesforce, American Express, and Visa all experienced gains, while Chevron, The Walt Disney Company, and Intel were among the worst performers. The best performers today in the S&P 500 index were recorded by Insight, Linde PLC Ord, and Alaska Air Group, while the weakest stocks included Oracle, Fremont Global B, and Johnson Controls.
In the NASDAQ index, C4 Therapeutics, Editex Therapeutics, and Aikoswax were the best performers, while EF Hutton Acquisition Corp, Green Giant Inc, and Achib Life Sciences were among the weakest stocks.
The number of declining stocks exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher in trading on the New York Stock Exchange, while the same trend was seen on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange.
Gold futures for February delivery added 0.08% and closed at $1,995.35 an ounce. In commodity trading, crude oil futures for delivery in January completed a decrease, as did the February contract for Brent oil futures. The EUR/USD pair remained stable, while the USD/JPY pair completed a decline and the futures contracts on the US dollar index settled down.
Overall, it was a day of highs and lows in the stock market, with certain sectors and companies outperforming others.
