Mumbai: Today (Monday) trading in the Mumbai stock market started with a decline. The Sensex fell 562 points to 58,767 in early trade. Similarly, the Nifty rose 142 points to 17,462 on the National Stock Exchange.

Stocks started the weekend trading lower, but recovered as financials and metal stocks rallied. As of 10:09 am, the Sensex was up 43.20 points at 59,374.10. The Nifty rose 22.30 points to 17,626.65 on the NSE.

The upcoming Indian budget ended last week in heavy decline due to factors such as the Hindenberg charge against the Adani Group. In this situation, the Indian stock markets started trading on the first day of the week and hung with the fall. But financials and metal stocks rallied as stocks rallied. The Sensex fell as much as 700 points and then rallied 250 points.

Shares of Adani Enterprises, Adani Port, Bajaj Finance, SNI, NTBC and Bajaj Pinserv were the top gainers on the Nifty 50, rising between 2 and 10 percent.

In terms of individual stocks, ITC, Wipro, M&M, Reliance Industries and Asian Paints were higher. Tata Motors, HDFC, Nestlé India, L&T, Tata Steel and Hindustan Unilever were the losers.
