Stockholm’s gym murder accused seeks acquittal at 17 years of age.

The murder occurred at a gym in central Stockholm on March 28 of last year. The perpetrator, dressed in black and wearing a mask, entered the location armed with a raised gun. The police reported that the intended victim was a man in his 40s with ties to a criminal motorcycle gang. However, instead of the intended target, a 55-year-old man was shot in the head when he attempted to intervene and thwart the shooter’s plans. The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance where he later succumbed to his wounds. The accused was charged with attempted murder of the intended target, but was acquitted. Additionally, he was found guilty of aggravated weapons offenses and public destruction; the latter charge stemmed from an incident where he threw a hand grenade into a restaurant on Södermalm in Stockholm just over a week before the murder. He was sentenced to closed youth care for two years and eleven months. Three other men were charged with aiding and abetting murder and attempted murder, but were acquitted. The prosecutor has appealed for their sentencing in the Court of Appeal.

The boy was also charged with attempted murder of the supposed target, but was acquitted of that.

In addition to murder, the boy was convicted of aggravated weapons offense and public destruction. This since he threw a hand grenade into a restaurant on Södermalm in Stockholm a little over a week before the murder. The penalty was closed youth care for two years and eleven months

Another three men, aged 19, 31 and 32, were charged with aiding and abetting murder and aiding and abetting attempted murder, but were acquitted. The prosecutor has also appealed against that and wants the men to be sentenced in the Court of Appeal.
