They also searched for her at the country’s borders, where the National Gendarmerie intervenes.

The case was investigated by the criminal prosecutor Rafael José Medina, who met with the parents of the stolen baby, belonging to an original community.

What is the Sofia Alert?

The program was presented on March 22, 2019 by the then Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich. That day, through the Official Gazette, it was specified that the idea of the Sofía Alert was to improve the “national coordination for the urgent search and location” of disappeared minors, and whose lives are in “high imminent risk” .

The system is based on the immediate dissemination of the images of the disappeared children. Its objective is to speed up and improve search mechanisms, and it is multi-channel: it is executed through advertisements on social networks, Internet search engines and the media and, of course, cell phones. It works as part of the Federal System for the Search for Missing and Missing Persons (SIFEBU), created in 2016.

“It is a search system for missing children that instantly disseminates information to reach more people in less time and give more hope to the family,” were Bullrich’s words on the day of his presentation.

The program has a Committee made up of representatives of the Ministry, the Attorney General of the Nation and the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family (SENNAF). For its creation, it had the support of the International Center for Missing & Exploited Children –ICMEC–, an organization with which a cooperation agreement was signed in 2016.
