A high-speed chase that started in South Gate on Tuesday morning finally came to an end in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, after an hour-long pursuit.
It all began when authorities received a report of a stolen vehicle in South Gate. The suspect, driving a stolen Kia Soul, led police on a dangerous chase that spanned approximately 15 miles. During the chase, the suspect made a brief stop at a Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Rosemead.
As captured by NewsChopper4, the suspect exited the stolen vehicle and attempted to enter the closed store. Armed with a backpack, the desperate individual struggled in vain to open the locked sliding doors. Eventually, the suspect returned to the stolen car.
The dramatic situation escalated when the suspect, still in reverse, collided with a sheriff’s department SUV that had positioned itself in front of the Kia Soul. Undeterred, the suspect managed to maneuver around the patrol SUV and fled back onto the streets.
The pursuit eventually reached a dead-end near the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area. With several sheriff’s department vehicles blocking any possible escape routes, the suspect found themselves trapped. After a short standoff with law enforcement, the driver ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody.
