NATO is pushing for more joint exercises with Japan amid security concerns in Asia and Europe.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was announced by the alliance’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with the Kyodo agency.

“The partnership with Japan has become even more important. We do small exercises, but we would like to expand them and do more together with Japan,” he said.

According to Stoltenberg, this includes naval and air exercises, as well as joint training in the field of cyber security.

During the NATO summit in Washington, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and the alliance’s Secretary General agreed to conduct joint exercises in the waters of the Euro-Atlantic region by the end of 2024. In addition, the parties decided to intensify coordination on the exchange of confidential information.

In recent years, Japan has been actively expanding cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance. The Japanese Prime Minister has already attended the NATO summit for the third time in a row. Tokyo has the status of a permanent partner of NATO, and there is a Japanese representative office at the alliance headquarters in Brussels.
