Seung-hwan Oh (42, Samsung) is a ‘stone Buddha’ to professional baseball fans, but he is known as ‘Santa Claus’ to disabled athletes.

This is because among all Korean non-disabled athletes, he is the one who has given the greatest ‘gift’ to disabled sports.

Even though he was sent down to the Futures League (2nd team) due to poor condition, Seung-Hwan Oh did not forget to give a gift to the Korean team participating in the Paris Paralympics (for the disabled).

The Korea Paralympic Committee announced on the 19th that “Oh Seung-hwan donated a total of 20 million won to the Korean team for the Paris Paralympics (15 million won) and the Disabled Tennis Association (5 million won).”

Oh Seung-hwan, who has been serving as an ambassador for the Korea Paralympic Committee since 2016, has donated a total of 114 million won (90 million won in cash and 24 million won in goods) to disabled sports.

Oh Seung-hwan said, “I am happy that I can once again keep my promise to continue to show interest in and support disabled sports.”

He added, “I will cheer hard so that our athletes can fully demonstrate everything they have prepared at the Paris Paralympics.”

The Paris Paralympics will open at 3 AM on the 29th, Korean time.

Korea, which won only two gold medals at the Tokyo Games three years ago, set a goal of winning at least five gold medals in Paris.

The word Paralympic is a combination of the Greek prefix ‘para’, meaning ‘side by side’, and the word ‘Olympic’.

After the non-paralympic games, both the summer and winter games, the Paralympic Games are held in succession to the Olympic Games in the host city of the Olympic Games, using Olympic facilities.

The fact that the non-disabled Olympics and Paralympics are held side by side is a legacy left to the world of sports by the 1988 Seoul Games.
