(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 10 – “We ask the Italian government to commit to ensuring that none of our boys and girls can own a personal smartphone before the age of 14 and that they cannot have a profile on social media before the age of 16”. This is the appeal launched by pedagogists Daniele Novara and psychotherapist Alberto Pellai – among the first signatories of the petition that also arrived today on Change.org – to ask for a further crackdown on cell phones for the youngest children and adolescents, as reported by La Repubblica.
After the ban on the use of smartphones in class until the third year of middle school – even for educational purposes – wanted by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, here comes the petition signed by intellectuals and personalities from the world of entertainment, from Paola Cortellesi and Alba Rohrwacher to Stefano Accorsi and Luca Zingaretti. “Ours is not an anti-technological stance but the acceptance of what neuroscience has now demonstrated – we read in the description of the appeal – there are areas of the brain, fundamental for cognitive learning, that do not develop fully if the minor brings into the digital world activities and experiences that he should instead live in the real world”. Also in the petition launched online, the experts – for whom “every technology has its right time” – underline that “in schools where smartphones are not allowed, students socialize and learn better. Before the age of 14-15, the emotional brain of minors is very vulnerable to the dopaminergic engagement of social media and video games”. (HANDLE).
