Emmanuel Macron called, this Wednesday evening, on the “residents of the departments on alert” due to the powerful storm Ciaran, expected during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, not to take “risks” and to stay at home.

“A major storm will hit part of the country this evening. To residents of vigilant departments: don’t take risks. Stay at home and check on your isolated loved ones,” the head of state wrote on social media.

From the start of the evening, strong gusts began to affect Brittany, according to an AFP photographer and several Internet users. Météo France reported winds already reaching, before 8:00 p.m., 129 km/h in Ouessant, 127 at Pointe du Raz (Finistère) and 120 at Belle-Île (Morbihan). Peaks approaching 150 km/h were reported at Pointe St Matthieu (Finistère).

Météo France has placed three departments (Finistère, Côtes-d’Armor and Manche) on red alert, the maximum alert level, between Wednesday midnight and Thursday 10:00 a.m.
