After storm Ciaran passed through France on Wednesday and Thursday, rail traffic continues to be disrupted. The SNCF has announced that traffic will be further disrupted this Friday. In Normandy and Brittany, regions particularly affected by bad weather, with numerous falling trees, an adapted transport plan has been put in place.

“In the most impacted regions, reconnaissance is continuing and restoration work continues,” indicates SNCF Réseau in a press release. The resumption of traffic will take place between Friday morning and Saturday morning depending on the sector. » “As the climatic episode is not over, particularly in Haut de France and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (…), visibility on the complete recovery remains conditional on the end of the storm”, also specifies the SNCF.

“The TGVs will run normally tomorrow except between Saint-Brieux-Brest, Lorient-Quimper, Nantes-Sables d’Olonne, Arras and beyond Lille as well as the first trains departing from Hendaye and Tarbes”, details the SNCF . Customers whose trains are canceled have been contacted to offer them an exchange or refund.

Damage on certain lines

Thursday morning, SNCF Réseau said it had recorded “several dozen incidents” on the network, according to an initial “non-definitive” report. The majority of them were identified in the five regions affected by the “stop traffic” (Brittany, Pays de la Loire, Normandy, Centre-Val de Loire, Hauts-de-France), as well as in Île-de-France. -France and to a lesser extent in Aquitaine Poitou Charentes and Lorraine-Champagne-Ardennes. On the Breton network, “fairly significant” damage will require “consequential interventions”, warned the operator.

A source at SNCF Réseau indicated earlier in the day to Le Parisien that “the situation is not critical, thanks to the reconnaissance trains and the agents that we have deployed preventively”. Access to the tracks remained complicated in areas where bad weather is still ongoing, such as in Hauts-de-France. “Everyone is mobilized to ensure that traffic resumes as best as possible tomorrow,” said the same source.
