The city of São Paulo entered a state of attention this Wednesday, 15th, due to the rain that hit the capital during the night. Some regions recorded flooding, overflowing streams, hailstorms and lack of electricity. At 7pm, the City Hall’s Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE) placed the city under a state of attention, however, at 9:30pm it reported the end of all states of attention for flooding. At 8pm, the capital of São Paulo recorded seven points of flooding, three of which were passable and four were impassable. On social media, some people reported that hail rained where they lived. Some even shared videos. The rain that hit the state of São Paulo this Wednesday comes after dry days with maximum temperatures above 30ºC.

The CGE reported that the areas of instability associated with the heat that “moved from the interior to the Capital lost strength, leaving only rains of light to moderate intensity in isolated points”, however, it highlighted that in the coming hours, the trend is still for rain , but with less intensity, and that during the morning there is no expectation of significant rain. Enel reported that the rains also affected the electricity supply to some parts of the city. “We inform that the heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 55 km/h that hit part of the distributor’s concession area interrupted the power supply to some customers,” they wrote. According to them, the North, South and some municipalities in the West are among the most affected places. “We continue to reinforce our teams in the field to normalize energy supply to impacted customers”, says the note.

For the next few days, the management center reports that hot air will predominate, with thermometers oscillating between 23ºC and 38ºC on Thursday, 16th, and 24ºC and 38ºC on Friday, 17th. In the afternoon and early evening, the combination of heat and the arrival of the sea breeze generates instability that causes rain in the form of quick, isolated showers with low accumulated volume. Civil Defense warns that between Friday, 17th, and Sunday, 19th, strong gusts of wind must be registered and can range between 60 and 80 km/h, with the possibility of reaching 100 km/h.
