Storm Megi kills at least 28

At least 28 people have died in the central and southern Philippines as Tropical Storm Megi caused flooding and landslides, authorities said on Tuesday.

In the province of Leyte, the most affected, at least 22 people died in landslides and 27 are missing, according to local authorities.

Three people were also killed in the province of Negros Oriental, and three others on the southern island of Mindanao, said the National Disaster Management Agency.

More than 17,000 people fled their flooded homes without electricity.

Megi, known in the Philippines by its local name Agaton, is the first major tropical storm to hit the country this year, which is frequently hit by natural disasters.
