Sturm Graz has created a great starting position for the second leg of the second round of the UEFA Europa Conference League! The “Blackies” beat Slovan Bratislava at home 4-1.
In a very fast game, Sturm took the lead in the fourth minute, Biereth was sent into the penalty area by Horvat and beat goalkeeper Trnovsky in the near corner on his European Cup debut for Sturm to make it 1-0.
However, the equalizer follows quickly, just four minutes after Biereth’s goal, after Graz lost the ball, Zmrhal bridged the midfield with a long ball to Rodrigues, the team player from Luxembourg went around the onrushing goalkeeper Jaros and made it 1-1.
Break guidance for storm
Gorenc-Stankovic restored Graz’s lead by heading a Sarkaria free kick forwarded by Affengruber into the goal (27′) – 2-1 for Sturm.
A period of pressure from Graz at the beginning of the second half did not lead to success, but after a little more than an hour Kiteishvili won a penalty against Barseghyan. The Georgian steps in himself and makes it 3-1 for Sturm with a confident penalty kick (64′).
Sent off and fourth goal
When the Slovan player Weiss, who had been substituted just a few minutes earlier, was sent off with a straight red card after VAR intervention (77th), Graz’s victory was practically guaranteed. Camara finished off the game with his first goal in international business in stoppage time, Sturm won clearly 4-1.
Thanks to the home win, the Graz team go into the second leg in Bratislava in an almost ideal position and have the best chance of a place in the round of 16 of the Conference League.
