by time news

A storm quickly crossed ten departments of Ile-de-France and neighboring regions on Monday, without causing significant damage despite strong gusts and hail, while Hérault and Gard were placed on orange alert overnight for possible stationary thunderstorms, by Météo-France.

Orange vigilance was lifted throughout Ile-de-France as well as in Oise and Aisne shortly after 10:30 p.m. The end of vigilance has already been announced for Cher and Loiret, initially concerned. Météo-France recorded a gust of 91 km / h in Etampes, in the Paris suburbs, and 94 km / h in Bailleul-le-Soc (Oise).

However, the emergency services did not report any significant damage, with only around twenty roofs of houses damaged due to falling trees or hailstones in the Yvelines. In Essonne, a tree fell on a catenary of line D of the RER caused a traffic stop.

In Paris, green spaces will reopen on Tuesday morning

Contacted, the town hall of Paris had announced to us the closing at 5 p.m. this Monday of the parks, gardens, cemeteries and squares, in short all the green spaces of the capital. They will reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. “As the announced storm can be violent, with gusts that can exceed 100k/h, we are not taking any risks and are closing green spaces to users, to guarantee their safety”, explains Christophe Najdovski, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of green spaces. The Hauts-de-Seine department has taken the same measure. In Clichy-la-Garenne, tree branches fell on the road rue Barbusse, quai de Clichy and boulevard Jean Jaurès.

In the Yvelines, the Poissy parks have been closed to the public since 4 p.m. on Monday. Overall, cities called for vigilance on social networks. Like Sartrouville, who reminds us that we must get away from “trees and waterways”.

In the Val-de-Marne, the prefecture had called for the closure of the interdepartmental parks of Tremblay in Champigny-sur-Marne and Choisy-Créteil from 7 p.m. Likewise, the Dupeyroux park in Créteil must close its doors at the end of the day.

Heavy rainfall expected locally in Hérault and Gard

In the South, Hérault and Gard will be on orange alert from 3 a.m. on the night of Monday to Tuesday. “We expect storm cells that can give between 50 and 80 mm in a short time. Over the episode, the strongest values could reach in places between 70 and 100 mm, locally between 120 and 150 mm or even more at the peak”, indicates Météo-France.

These extreme precipitation volumes can, especially if they are very localized, lead to flash floods. The main rivers of the two departments are placed on yellow vigilance given a “risk of a rapid rise in thunderstorms”, but “no overflow is expected”, according to Vigicrues.

Regarding thunderstorms, “uncertainty is marked in terms of chronology or location”, warns Météo-France. “However, the risk of stationarity is very marked” and “this therefore requires treating it at the orange level”. “The continuation of this episode is possible the following night from Tuesday to Wednesday, or even for the day of Wednesday as well”, concludes Météo-France.
