Several Eastern European countries suffered from severe storms: one person died in Latvia, three became victims of the elements in Poland, Day.Az reports with reference to Euronews.

At least one person has died as a powerful storm hits Latvia and Lithuania, leaving about 200,000 households without power.

Firefighters and rescuers received hundreds of emergency calls about fallen trees, damaged cars and flooded roads. Authorities warned the public of the danger, urging them to leave only in cases of emergency.

Despite numerous reports, emergency services have assured that they are able to cope with the aftermath of the storm.

Meteorologists predict that the strong winds prevailing in Latvia will continue to raise water levels along the coast of the Gulf of Riga, and the Daugava River, which flows through the capital Riga, may overflow its banks.

Other Eastern European countries were also hit by powerful storms.

Strong winds and heavy rains caused destruction in Slovenia. Estonia was also hit, but escaped serious material damage.

Storms in Poland have killed three people and left 100,000 homes without power.
