According to reports, the debate in the yeshiva reached shouts, with Horowitz and senior officials of his office claiming that these measures were too harsh and disproportionate. “The prime minister is exaggerating the discussion of the restrictions and making it irrelevant,” a senior health ministry official said at the hearing. “There are not enough data yet so the Ministry of Health has asked to extend the existing restrictions by a week, but the prime minister’s proposals are unfounded, probably at this stage.”

Bennett said in response that restrictions may need to be tightened to prevent the outbreak of another wave of morbidity – he said “the price is known, but with strong moves now we can prevent a closure”. At one point, the prime minister asked the deputy ombudsman, Raz Nazri, to examine the possibility of a ban on non-vaccinated people leaving the country, but the proposal was legally rejected.
