A night out in Miami Beach turned dangerous for a British tourist, marked by a robbery that left the victim without his cell phone.
Miami Beach police reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. last Sunday, following an argument between the tourist and Jagjot Matharu, a 40-year-old man with a criminal record.
The argument broke out after both had spent a good part of the night together, which makes the event an unexpected turn for the person affected.
It emerged that, during the confrontation, Matharu threatened the victim with a small pocket knife and demanded the phone.
“Welcome to the United States, p…”The criminal shouted, apparently enjoying his action.
After the incident, the victim, unable to retrieve his phone, went to a nearby hotel for help.
Subsequently, he managed to identify Matharu from a photo of his driver’s license and it was then that the police discovered that the subject had already been implicated in previous crimes in the same area and that he tried to hide his presence in the hotel, which raised further suspicions about his behavior.

A surveillance camera captured not only the tense exchange, but also the moment of the robbery itself. Thanks to this evidence, Miami authorities were able to locate and arrest Matharu on the same day of the incident, where the stolen mobile phone was also found on him.
He currently faces a formal charge of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, and remains detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his legal situation has not yet been resolved, and he will have to await a judge’s determination.
