Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 – netflix Unveils Animated spinoff Details
Table of Contents
Netflix has finally addressed the fervent speculation surrounding the future of the Stranger Things universe, not with news of Season 5, but with a first look at Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, a new animated series that’s been in growth for at least three years. The announcement comes after thousands of TikToks and social media posts debated the possibility of a ninth episode and the mysterious #ConformityGate.
The new series isn’t a continuation of the live-action narrative, but rather a journey back to the heart of Hawkins, Indiana, offering a fresh viewpoint with new characters, creatures, and the signature ’80s aesthetic fans adore. While the visual style has evolved from its initial concept, the series promises a thrilling, untold story within the established Stranger Things universe.
What to Expect From Stranger Things: Tales From ’85?
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 returns viewers to the winter of 1985,a time when the horrors of the Upside Down seemed to be fading. According to the official synopsis, Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max are attempting to settle into a more normal life, filled with Dungeons & Dragons, snowball fights, and quiet days. However, beneath the peaceful surface, a terrifying new threat awakens, potentially originating from the Upside Down, Hawkins Lab, or somewhere entirely unknown.
The series explores a mystery that could rewrite history, prompting comparisons to DuckTales – albeit without the ducks or a large sum of money. The animation style, initially planned to mimic 1980s cartoons, was updated to accommodate the complex world and creatures of Stranger Things. “All of it is still connected to the Upside Down, so there is the DNA of Upside Down creatures in all of our creatures. It’s like Hawkins Lab science meets Upside Down matter,” Robles explained to Tudum.
The series draws inspiration from The Real Ghostbusters, a spinoff that expanded the universe without contradicting the original adventures. This allows the writers to explore new storylines without being constrained by the established canon, similar to how the Broadway play The First Shadow had to adjust its plot to avoid spoiling Season 5.
Voice cast and Production Details
The live-action actors from Stranger Things will not be reprising their roles in voice form. The voice cast for Tales From ’85 includes Jeremy Jordan as Steve “The Hair” Harrington, alongside Luca Diaz as Mike Wheeler, Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Braxton Quinney as dustin, Elisha Williams as Lucas, Ben Plessala as Will, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, and Brett Gipson as Hopper.

Is This the spinoff the duffer Brothers Teased?
Despite the excitement surrounding Tales From ’85, it is not the live-action spinoff the Duffer Brothers have been hinting at. That project, still unannounced, will feature entirely new characters and a different setting. The animated series serves as a separate exploration of the Stranger Things universe, distinct from the upcoming live-action expansion.
When and How Many Episodes?

for now, fans will have to wait until April to discover that life is, indeed, like a hurricane, here in Hawkins.
