Joe Keery Crowned “Best Cook” Among ‘Stranger Things’ Cast as Series Finale Approaches

The highly anticipated conclusion to Stranger Things is set to drop on Netflix December 31st at 8 p.m. ET, but before the final battle, cast members Finn Wolfhard and Natalia Dyer revealed a surprising talent within the Hawkins crew: Joe Keery’s culinary prowess.

Wolfhard and Dyer recently participated in “The Pizza Interview,” a cooking series produced by The New York Times Cooking, where they discussed life on set and, notably, their co-stars’ skills in the kitchen. The conversation quickly turned to who reigns supreme when it comes to cooking, and the answer was unanimous.

According to Dyer, Keery, who portrays Steve Harrington, is a “good cook.” Wolfhard elaborated, recalling a particularly memorable meal. “He made an amazing steak and chimichurri sauce,” he said. “Just like simple, but like perfect.” Dyer added her own praise, complimenting Keery’s ability to create delicious meals with apparent ease, mentioning a “chicken thing” he cooked that was “like it was nothing.”

Beyond Keery: Culinary Interests of the Cast

While Keery may hold the title of “best cook,” Wolfhard also shared his own passion for cooking. He expressed a fondness for “a lot of Asian food, a lot of Asian cuisine.” He recounted a previous dinner party where he attempted a Japanese hot pot, which he admitted was “way too salty,” but more recently, he successfully prepared a kimchi stew that he deemed “actually good.”

The cast has expressed a desire to hone their cooking skills together, but scheduling conflicts during filming prevented them from hosting those coveted pizza nights. “We talked about doing many pizza nights when we shot the last season of Stranger Things,” Wolfhard recalled. “And then never did it, and always ended up maybe spending an hour and a half trying to figure out what we were going to end up ordering.”

Bittersweet Farewell to Hawkins

The second volume of Stranger Things Season 5 arrived on Netflix December 25th, building anticipation for the final installment. Dyer previously shared with PEOPLE that she felt “so happy with my character’s ending,” but acknowledged that saying goodbye to the show was a “bittersweet” experience.

“I was satisfied, but I was also very confused and sad, but also very happy,” she said. “I felt like I was in a dream or something. None of it felt real. I don’t know, it felt perfect.”
