There will be no fireworks in Strasbourg for July 14. The town hall of the city announced on Wednesday evening the cancellation of the traditional fireworks display for the national holiday, taking note of “the unavailability of the fire and rescue services” in a context of “high” risk of fire of forest.

“The fireworks scheduled for Strasbourg on the evening of July 14 is canceled”, announces the municipality in a press release, but the national holiday, “moment of cohesion and national unity, will be celebrated in Strasbourg”, she nevertheless warns .

“The site on which it is pulled is dry, archi dry”, explained the mayor Muriel Fabre, to France Blue Alsace. “It’s frustrating for us and for all the inhabitants, but it had to be done for safety”, she justified, specifying that the fire will be fired in October, on the occasion of the cultural and artistic festival of the city. .

This decision is in accordance with the recommendations issued in the morning by the prefecture of Bas-Rhin, which invites the mayors of the department to “cancel the fireworks and festive fires” given the “worrying situation concerning the risk of forest fires , which remains at a high level. “The early drought and the new episode of heat announced for the end of the week do not allow us to envisage an improvement in the situation”, judges the prefecture which has not however issued a ban on fires. artifice.

Other municipalities in the department have however decided to cancel or postpone the fireworks of July 14, in particular in Obernai, Neuwiller-lès-Saverne, Dorlisheim or Lampertheim, according to France Bleu Alsace.

Several outbreaks of fire were recorded in forests in Bas-Rhin and the neighboring Vosges in June. A fire broke out in particular in a wooded area of ​​Bois-Le Champ, and had destroyed more than 30 ha before being brought under control by firefighters.
