With significant experience and an exemplary relationship which has been strengthened since the granting of “partner for democracy” status in 2011, the Moroccan parliament is determined to further consolidate its cooperation with this pan-European parliamentary assembly, which brings together 612 members, 30 observers and 30 partners around the democratic ideal, indicates a press release from the parliament.
The emphasis during this session is on the situation in the Middle East, in particular the escalation of violence and the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as well as on migration and refugee issues, underlines the same source.
In parallel with the plenary sessions, members of the Moroccan delegation actively participate in the work of the various PACE committees, in particular the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, the Committee Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons, the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development, the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media, and the Committee on Equality and non-discrimination.
The participation of the Moroccan delegation was consolidated thanks to the new prerogatives which are now devolved to it, in particular the right to attend meetings of the Standing Committee, the right to submit proposed recommendations and resolutions, to submit amendments co-signed by a member of the Assembly, to request current affairs debates and to be designated to open these debates, as well as the right to submit written statements and to be appointed as rapporteur for certain reports information, the press release concludes.
