The Strasbourg Eurometropolis will experiment with a four-day working week in 2024 as well as the introduction of menstrual leave.

“We realized that the four-day week is requested as an element of flexibility by agents, that it is an element of attractiveness for a certain number of young potential agents, and finally that it could have an effect beneficial for young parents who want to move to 80% (of working time) after a birth,” explains vice-president of the community, Syamak Agha Babaei to justify the ongoing reflection within the community.

The metropolis therefore plans to launch an experiment in 2024, with volunteer agents, of a 35-hour week over four working days. “This is not without asking a certain number of questions, this implies extending the duration of daily work” to go from 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., underlines the elected official. “This is one of the subjects that we are discussing with the union organizations. »

The community also wants to experiment with the introduction of menstrual leave in 2024. “There are a few pitfalls to avoid. Some communities treat the subject from the angle of sick leave. But that involves providing medical certificates, and then do we consider that an illness? » asks Syamak Agha Babaei. “But if we do not consider this as an illness, it raises the question of the equality of agents before the law. We still have to cover all of these subjects.”

32 hours paid 35 for the Atsem

The environmentalist town hall of Strasbourg also intends to put in place from 2024, and permanently, the week of 32 hours paid 35 for its Atsem (specialized territorial agents of nursery schools), to take into account the “well-documented arduousness, well proven” in the profession, explains Syamak Agha Babaei, also first deputy to the mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian.

He hopes that this new organization will facilitate recruitment in order to achieve the objective of “one Atsem per class” in the city’s approximately 130 nursery schools.

The Atsem and their union organizations organized a day of national mobilization in September 2022 to denounce a lack of recognition and the stagnation of salaries despite the regular increase in their responsibilities.
