Two servings of strawberries lower blood pressure

“This study shows that daily consumption of 26 grams of freeze-dried strawberry powder moderately improves cognitive processing speed, lowers systolic blood pressure, and increases total antioxidant capacity, which may benefit cognitive function and improve cardiovascular risk factors,” the research team concluded Michelle Tsang from San Diego State University.

With the help of 35 healthy men and women aged 66 to 78, the scientists investigated how an eight-week “strawberry cure” affected the body. To do this, they divided the people into two groups, one of which consumed 26 grams of freeze-dried strawberry powder each day, which corresponds to around two servings of fresh strawberries (about twelve medium-sized strawberries). The control group, on the other hand, received a powder without ingredients every day.

At the end of the eight weeks, the researchers found that the “strawberry group” increased their cognitive ability by 5.2 percent and reduced their systolic blood pressure by 3.6 percent compared to the control group.
