Before the reunion with VfL Wolfsburg, coach Christian Streich from SC Freiburg didn’t want to discuss the 6-0 swatter from the first leg.
“I didn’t think about it and didn’t look at it for a second,” said the coach before the Baden Bundesliga team’s last home appearance this Friday. The clear defeat against Wolfsburg at the restart after the winter break was the only one against a team from Freiburg this season that is currently not among the top five in the table.
“I thought they wouldn’t lose anything after our game,” said Streich, looking back on the game against Lower Saxony in January. VfL didn’t manage to do that, but at least they worked their way up to sixth place.
The Freiburgers are in fifth place before the 33rd match day and are therefore at least certain of participating in the Europa League again, which Streich finds “wonderful”.
