Elbit will supply Sweden with precision ammunition for the tanks under a $ 27 million contract. The Swedes will purchase quarry shells as well as data entry units for ammunition, for the Swedish Army’s leopard tanks.
Hatzav shells, developed by IMI, which was acquired by Elbit, are suitable for all tanks in NATO that have a 120 mm diameter barrel barrel. Finland also purchased such shells from Elbit two years ago, in a deal worth $ 40 million.

Elbit announced last year the establishment of a subsidiary in Sweden, which recently won a contract to provide battle management systems for the Swedish Navy. Elbit also supplies the Swedish military with thousands of digital tactical communications systems, Swedish navy intelligence systems, and avionics systems, electronic warfare and pilot helmets for the Swedish fighter aircraft – the Griffon.
Since Russia invaded the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine in 2014, Sweden has increased its military spending. The Swedish defense budget in 2021 was $ 6.7 billion and accounted for 1.2% of Swedish GDP.
As early as last year, the Swedes announced an increase in the defense budget, with the aim of reaching a budget of $ 9.3 billion within 3 years, which is 1.5% of Swedish GDP.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February, the Swedish government has announced that it will increase its defense budget to 2% of GDP, amid rising threats from Russia, and that it will add $ 300 million to it this year.
