During this meeting, the two parties reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of agriculture, irrigation, food security and agricultural research.
On this occasion, Mr. Sadiki welcomed the quality of the relations which unite the two friendly countries, considering that this meeting is an opportunity to reflect on the main measures to be put in place in order to further deepen these links and bring the necessary support for the agricultural sector.
“We have also planned the signing, next April, of an agreement in the fields of agriculture, irrigation and food security, aimed mainly at ensuring the transfer of good practices contained within the framework of the strategy Generation Green for the benefit of this brother country,” he said.
And to note that the discussions also focused on the organization of the 33rd session of the Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Africa in Morocco, which will be opportunity to share experiences, explore innovative solutions and strong partnerships for more efficient and resilient agri-food systems.
For his part, Mr. Mekina emphasized the importance of this meeting which is part of the preparations for the FAO Regional Conference for Africa in Morocco, chaired by the Equatorial Guinea from April 11 to 14, 2022.
In this sense, he underlined the importance of promoting bilateral relations in the agricultural field between the two countries, taking into account the specificity of the current context, marked in particular by the effects of climate change and geopolitical crises.
For his part, Mr. Senahoun welcomed the Moroccan presidency of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa, highlighting the importance of this event which constitutes an opportunity to discuss current challenges in terms of food security on the continent.
The Regional Conference will take place in two stages, namely a virtual session which will address the technical aspects of food security and the transformation of agri-food systems in Africa, and a ministerial session in Rabat, he said.
This conference will bring together FAO members from the African region, selected specialized agencies of the United Nations system, as well as intergovernmental organizations and civil society organizations.
The Conference aims to provide regional guidance on the transformation of agri-food systems in Africa, through discussions that will focus on the FAO strategic framework 2022-2031.
This roadmap aims to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by reducing poverty, hunger and inequalities, in particular through the development of more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems.
